WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was on Tuesday arrested.

The Scotland Yard is expected to serve the 39-year-old with an arrest warrant over allegations of rapes in Sweden earlier this year. The warrant forms the first step in extraditing Assange to Sweden.

Assange is believed to hiding with his friends south-east of London. After arrest, he is likely to be handed over to Sweden for questioning.

Two women, who met Assange when he was in Sweden for lectures, have claimed he sexually attacked them.

Assange has, meanwhile, warned that his followers will release more damaging information if his activities are curtailed by any country.

He has distributed to fellow hackers an encrypted 'poison pill' of damaging secrets, thought to include details on Guantanamo Bay, an aerial video of a US airstrike in Afghanistan that killed civilians and Bank of America documents.

Assange believes the file is his 'insurance' in case he is killed or arrested or his whistleblowing website is removed permanently from the internet.
